What Is The United States

The United States is a place where democracy came alive.  It is a place where we have a right to vote or not to vote.  It is a place where our leaders are elected not handed their positions.  The U.S. is a country to where freedom is a right of the people.  It is a country where burning the U.S. flag represents freedom of speech.  It is a country where we can criticize our leaders and not have to worry about being thrown in prison.  It is a country where we can discuss our country’s needs in the media without our opinions being controlled by the government.

The United States is a place where people volunteer for the military to protect the land that they love and not forced to enlist.  Yes we might have a draft if major wars break out but we do not force everyone to enlist at a certain age.  It is a place, which while some might debate who is right or wrong, that allows you to choose which ever religion, if any, you want.  It is a country where you can go from being poor to being rich.  It is a place where you can take your ideas and make them a reality.

The United States is a place where all walks of life live.  It does not matter what ethnicity, faith, color, or race you are.  It does not matter if you are rich, poor, young, old, gay, male, or female.  This is a country where you are allowed to be yourself.  It is a place where you control your destiny.  It is the land of endless opportunities.

While our country might not be perfect, it is still the greatest country on earth.  I am thankful and feel blessed for living here in the United States of America.
